Art always has its justification. Whether it holds up a mirror to society or is a purely private expression of individual feeling, art is always an expression of free, creative thought (it is the daughter of freedom, as Schiller put it).
It is an achievement of our humanistic society that must be protected and promoted. But what makes good art, what characterises an artist? In my opinion, one of the most important aspects is authenticity. The artist who, after a long struggle with himself or herself and the respective medium, finds the best form of expression for him or her is true to him or herself - and only to him or herself - and is thus able to create a coherent work and ultimately a strong oeuvre with deep content and message.

What we see before us in Aja von Loeper's work is not an image of anything. The object of her art, the tree, here a symbol of nature, is rather the reason for her works. She is concerned with the essence of her art itself: the fragility of the medium of paper and the form she creates metaphorically stands for the fragility of nature and, ultimately, of our own existence in a world whose preservation is the task of us all. Today more than ever.
On the other hand, however, it is precisely this fragility that is the source of the very special beauty of her works. An inexhaustible source!
